My question for McCain. If she is the VP candidate, tell us her qualifications to step in to be the POTUS in case you don't complete your term.
Obviously, this is a play for the disgruntled Hillary voters. Maybe from an election standpoint it's a good play. However, I think it will be seen for exactly what it is - a ploy for the Dem women's vote and I'm not sure what their reaction will be.
If she is his selection, her lack of experience and readiness will put in play McCain's age - big time.
While she can't be held accountable for it, she comes from Alaska - no help with electoral votes and a constituency that just gave their native son crook, Ted Stevens, a primary victory.
Finally, her lack of name recognition is stunning!!
IF, and I mean IF, she is his selection, will someone put my mind at ease regarding the issues with her I raised above.
FOX News went on record this morning saying the choice for VP will definitely not be Huckabee, Pawlenty or Romney.
NBC News has confirmed her selection as his running mate. As far as I know, she has no credintials to step in as POTUS should McCain become incapacitated. This is obviously a calculated move for the
Hillary voters. Unfortunately, her selection does nothing to insure the continued security of the country should it be necessary to fill in for McCain. McCain did not need to do this to win.
Hell's bells, she's been governor of Alaska for just over a year. Before that she was the mayor of a small town in Alaska of 9,000 - a small town I've never heard of. Holy shit, Obama's political resume is deeper than that. What could McCain be thinking?? It can't be about oil and gas. Alaskans are overwhelmingly in favor of drilling in ANWR - it's McCain that isn't.
My first impression of this selection is that this morning McCain went a long way toward losing the election. It all boils down to Clinton voters - are enough of them upset enough to not just leave their party, but to vote for a women who's position on abortion rights resoundingly differs from theirs and who opposes gun control.
Finally, by selecting Gov. Palin, an individual with such little experience and zero foreign policy experience, in one stroke McCain has compromised his most compelling asset - experience. In effect, experience has been taken off the table.
In my opinion, this is an uneccessary roll of the dice by McCain.
